It is also used for all conditions associated with thick mucus, wheezing, and chest congestion. It works by relaxing the muscles of the airways and making the mucus less thick, which can be expelled easily. According to the advisory issued by the Union Health Ministry, cough and cold medications should not be prescribed or dispensed to children under two years of age. These medications are generally not recommended for children under five years old.
